Built in 1910, the Cornell Hotel de France in San Francisco, Calif., resembles a small hotel found on the Rive Gauche in Paris: a perfect setting for couples on romantic getaways and other travelers looking to capture special memories. Guests are even greeted by the hotel's resident golden retriever, Noel. In this mystical City by the Bay, the Cornell is located at the foot of Nob Hill, just two blocks from Union Square's fashionable shopping, restaurants and street entertainment. Passing cable cars ferry travelers less than eight blocks to theater and financial districts, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and other sights.
The Cornell exudes European charm, especially with prints by Matisse, Gauguin and Jeanne D'Arc adorning every nook. A renovated 19th century elevator transports guests to their guestrooms.
In addition to complimentary breakfasts, the hotel's Jeanne D'Arc restaurant plies guests with a romantic setting right out of 15th century France, featuring fresh flowers, tapestries, statues and stained glass windows. Authentic French cuisine is served, including Saumon Nouvelle Orleans, Muscovy Duck Leg Confit, and Lapin Chasseur (rabbit cooked in white wine).
The six story hotel's 56 guestrooms feature Internet access, safes, original clawfoot bathtubs, and windows that open to let in the cool San Francisco breezes.
